Science works in nature and we might not realise how active science is around us or that we play a role in science, but science is, intrinsically, part of us. This means that science impacts on us and we impact on science. Science consists of many systemic processes. And it is these systemic processes that are absolutely beautiful, interesting and artistic.

René Toesie hails from Grassy Park in the Western Cape of South Africa. She is a qualified Civil and Environmental Engineer who has over 21 years of experience in the private and government infrastructure sectors. Her focus areas are promoting community awareness of the built and natural environments and she is passionate about citizen science. She made a decision to combine her formal training with her love for drawing and writing stories to develop books.
